Candy Jar: An Exhibition of Artwork by Ann Marie Pellegrino

Tioga Arts Council (TAC) is honored and delighted to present Candy Jar: An Exhibition of Artwork by Ann Marie Pellegrino. The exhibition will open on First Friday, July 3, at 179 Front St. from 5 - 8 p.m. An Artist Talk will take place at 6:00 p.m. Join us!

ABOUT ANN MARIE PELLEGRINO
Ann Pellegrino, working under the studio name Spotgirl Design, is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes art direction, illustration, murals, and collage. Working out of a colorful home studio in Vestal, NY, she specializes in happy doodle drawings and cheerful mixed-media works.

Ann’s work has been part of numerous group exhibitions throughout New York’s Southern Tier and has painted murals in several locations in Binghamton and Ithaca. She is a proud member of the local arts community and finds great joy in learning from and supporting fellow artists. Ann believes that art can be imperfect, a welcome escape, and an opportunity to connect with others.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Welcome to a super sweet visual treat!

The candy jar at Grandma’s house was a constant while we were growing up. The filled candy jar along with a shelf of books, stairs full of snacks, and blue basket of toys made us feel cozy and valued. Candy Jar is about the memories that live within us and the small gestures that represent love.

Art making is the tool I use to manage anxious feelings. The drive to create comes from a need to soothe my soul and that comfort becomes something tangible. Getting into the flow of creating transforms heaviness into colorful graphics in a way that feels magical. The process is a happy distraction with results that are visual goodies: warm, colorful, and fun.

Textures are made by painting or printing acrylic paint onto discarded papers that become the medium for building collage designs. I use thrifted canvas, boards, and frames as much as possible. Every piece of paper is hand cut and pasted down like a puzzle. Creating fodder and repurposing materials is so satisfying! Repeating this familiar formula becomes a joyful meditation.

Making aggressively cheerful artwork is my calming ritual, and I hope those good feelings transfer to the viewer. I’m happy you are here!

SPECIAL EVENTS: COLLAGE AFTERNOONS
- Date 1: Sunday, August 9 from 12-2
- Date 2: Thursday, August 20 from 12-2
- Description: Join artist Ann Pellegrino for an afternoon of collage making. Dig through curated bins of colorful painted and vintage papers to find inspiration and make your own mini collage works to take home. It will be a relaxing afternoon of art making at the gallery.

A SPECIAL THANKS
To Black Cat Gallery for sponsoring this exhibition.

Rooted in Light: The Evolving Expression of Matt Feldman

Tioga Arts Council (TAC) is honored to present “Rooted in Light — The Evolving Expressions of Matt Feldman”. The exhibition will open on First Friday, June 5, at 179 Front St. from 5 - 8 p.m. Join us!
.
ABOUT ROOTED IN LIGHT — THE EVOLVING EXPRESSIONS OF MATT FELDMAN
Rooted in Light traces the evolution of Matt Feldman’s artistic expression from early acrylic explorations to richly layered works that incorporate natural and found materials. What began through the Magic Paintbrush Project has grown into a sustained creative practice developed collaboratively with his mother.
.
Over time, Matt’s visual language has expanded. Early works focused primarily on color and gesture.
.
Gradually, his attraction to texture and organic elements led to the incorporation of twigs, leaves, slate, sand, crushed glass, beads, glitter, foil, and recycled materials. Even discarded business envelopes become canvases, reinforcing themes of renewal and second life. The exhibition is organized into three sub themes that highlight this progression:
.
- Becoming: From Color to Earth
- Light, Texture & Resilience
- Nature Within: Seasons of Growth
.
This exhibition centers the art itself—its growth, its layering, and its luminosity—while quietly honoring the collaborative rhythm through which it is made. Rooted in Light affirms that expression evolves, that materials carry memory, and that creative practice can illuminate unexpected beauty.
.
Proceeds from this exhibition will support the work of the Animal Care Sanctuary, advancing their mission to provide compassionate rescue, rehabilitation, and humane education for animals in need, while also supporting programs that serve individuals of all abilities.
.
Matt has been expressing himself through art since his early participation in the Magic Paintbrush Project. What began as a structured art experience evolved into a practice he now consistently asks for each weekend when he is home with his family. Painting is something Matt and his mother create together, and this shared process has become an important rhythm in their lives.
.
Through this collaborative practice, Matt strengthens his focus, concentration, speech, expressive communication, and both gross and fine motor skills. Creating art has significantly increased his confidence and pride, reinforcing his sense of accomplishment and belonging.
.
Beyond the studio, Matt volunteers delivering Meals on Wheels and assisting with shopping for participants. He helps arrange Bibles at a Universal church and enjoys cooking with his father. These activities, like his artwork, reflect his desire to contribute meaningfully.
.
Matt’s artwork has been exhibited at Gallery 444 in Provincetown, Massachusetts; at Achieve in both Broome County and Chenango County; at Helping Create Abilities; and on the Arts Wall at The Arc New York headquarters in Latham, New York. His work has received recognition at the New York State level, including winning an abstract art competition.
.
Through his art and his service, Matt demonstrates that creative expression belongs to everyone, and meaningful contribution can take many forms.

Free Poetry Reading Featuring Christine Gelineau & Dante Di Stefano

Join us for a FREE poetry reading featuring the work of Christine Gelineau and Dante Di Stefano on Saturday, May 10, at 1:30 pm at Tioga Arts Council (TAC) - Gallery located at 179 Front St., Owego, NY 13827. Afterward, there will be a Q&A with books for sale. Join us!

ABOUT CHRISTINE GELINEAU

Christine Gelineau's latest book is the hybrid memoir ALMANAC: A MURMURATION, new this spring from Excelsior Editions, the trade imprint of SUNY Press. This is Gelineau's fourth book; she is the prize-winning author of three books of poetry, most recently Crave, and editor, with Jack B. Bedell, of the anthology French Connections: A Gathering of Franco-American Poets. Gelineau is past Associate Director of the Creative Writing Program at Binghamton University, State University of New York, and teaches creative nonfiction and poetry at the Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Wilkes University, a program she helped to found.

Christine Gelineau grew up on quarter-acre lots in New England but, fresh out of college, she moved with her new husband to a 120-acre farm in upstate New York to raise Morgan horses and write poetry. Seventeen years into midwifing foals, tending to a large organic garden, and starting their own family, Christine returned to academia, earned her doctorate, and added teaching to her other activities. In ALMANAC, bewildered vixens; iced-in alligators; newborn foals; and prose poems evoking the natural world mix with national origin stories; gardening techniques learned from the Haudenosaunee; resilience in the face of Long COVID and brain surgery; urban vs. rural perspectives on water rights and wind turbine siting; and how the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves, about one another, and about the planet we all share shapes our own identities, our communities, and our attitudes and actions towards the environment. Framed by the seasons, ALMANAC speaks to these vital conversations about what it can mean to be human in ways that are lyrical, practical, spiritual, and life-affirming.

ABOUT DANTE DI STEFANO

Dante Di Stefano is the author of five poetry collections and a chapbook, including the book-length poem, The Widowing Radiance (Bordighera Press, 2025). His writing has appeared in American Poetry Review, Best American Poetry 2018, Poem-a-Day, Prairie Schooner, The Sewanee Review, The Writer’s Chronicle, and elsewhere. He holds a PhD in English Literature and his poetry has won many awards, including the Auburn Witness Poetry Prize, the Manchester Poetry Prize (UK), the Thayer Fellowship in the Arts, among others. He co-edited the anthology Misrepresented People (NYQ Books, 2018) and lives in Endwell, NY with his wife and two children.

Creative Symposium Series #1: Small Business Primer

  • Cloud Croft Studios - Schoolhouse (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Our First Event is a 'Small Business Primer'. Advisors from the Small Business Development Center at Binghamton University will present an 'Introduction to Business', tailored to the unique needs of creative businesses. I know this is generally an area that most creatives tend to avoid/procrastinate and yes, maybe Dread! But learning to write a solid business plan and getting to the bottom of those tax and insurance questions will help you turn your passion into a successful venture. Perhaps it will be a little more fun if we embrace it together!

  • Title: Small Business Primer for Creative Businesses

  • Date & Time: Thursday, February 20, 6 - 8 p.m.

  • Location: Cloud Croft Studios - Schoolhouse, 1003 Sanford Rd.

  • Parking: Attendees can park in the field adjacent to the schoolhouse.

Heroes of Black History

Heroes of Black History

Heroes of Black History features recent works by Chloe Whitmore (age 16), Paris Whitmore (age 13), Samara Gibson (age 6) and Makaio Gibson (age 3). These young artists chose mixed media and a vintage comic book look to put with the brave heroes of black history they have been studying, using the medium of collage to put these ideas together to create real life heroes in the vibrant well-loved vintage comic book style.

They hope by sharing these creative images that their work will inspire other young people to learn more about black history heroes and their lives. Working on their art together, on their family farm, in a multi-generational homeschool class, they inspire and encourage each other. Samara says about her art, “My art is beautiful. I put all my pressure, hard work and love into it.”

Creative Symposium Series #5: Creative Citizenship

Registration is now open for Event 5 in our Creative Symposium Series! This is part of a professional development series for creatives in our community. The event is Free, but space is limited - RSVP here: https://forms.gle/qynWYFVgqc2ZRyLX7

We'll be discussing 'Creative Citizenship', a concept that combines creativity with civic engagement.

Artist Yen Ospina will be sharing her journey of building community through art, activism and event planning. She will discuss the creation of the nomadic Orozco Gallery, a pop-up, moveable space that challenges traditional gallery norms and opens up new possibilities for artists and communities. Attendees will get a glimpse into the power of celebrating culture and fostering collaboration among creatives.

Yen Ospina is a Colombian-American, self-taught multidisciplinary artist whose work spans traditional and digital mediums. Inspired by folklore, etching, and lithographs, Yen’s vibrant digital pieces tell stories that reflect her heritage through saturated earth tones. In contrast, her traditional abstract works explore deeper emotional expression. A muralist with over seven completed murals in the Ithaca area, Yen also curates BIPOC exhibitions through her nomadic Orozco Gallery Ithaca and uplifts the Hispanic/Latine community by creating events as the president of the Latino Civic Association.

To learn about Yen, follow her socials and check out her website at www.yenospina.com
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yenospina/
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/yenospina
patreon.com/yenospina
We'll also hear from Mike Poe, owner of Cloud Croft Studios (www.CloudCroftStudios) with this wife Suzy. He will speak about their vision for this space they generously share with the Tioga Arts Council.

Join us for an inspirational evening!

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a photographer from Warren Center, Pennsylvania who is currently based in Syracuse, New York. I’ve had a camera by my side for at least 10 years. In 2016, I started documenting the music world around me. All of the frames in this gallery were thrifted at various Salvation Army’s, Thrifty Shoppers, and Goodwills in the area. The frames aren’t perfect but they were handpicked and hand painted white for consistency. Each photo included in the gallery was taken throughout various cities, mostly in New York, in the past few years. I take photos of various music genres and always edit in both black and white and in color, so my goal was to have a diverse group that best represents me and my work.
.
I just hope to consistently document the music in the area through unique compositions, whether it is in my hometown or on tour with a band.
